DHS: Provisional Waivers Rules Published

New Immigrant Fees Starting February 1, 2013

Immigrating to the US will become more expensive for those immigrating with a visa stamp. USCIS will begin charging an additional $165 on February 1st “to recover the costs of processing immigrant visas in the United States after immigrant visa holders receive their visa packages from” the Department of State. This fee is in addition to the fees charged by the Department of State.

USCIS alleges that the costs to be recovered include “staff time to handle, file and maintain the immigrant visa package, and the cost of producing and delivering the permanent resident card.”

Immigrants will need to pay the $165 after receiving their immigrant visa and before their trip to the US. The fee will be payable online through the USCIS website.
